Basic Education Information that ALL COLORADO REALTORS® should know.
Education Requirements – As a licensee you must take at least 24 hours of continuing education before the expiration date of your 3 year license cycle. Of those 24 hours, 12 of them have to be the ACU Annual Commission Update Class. (This is a 4-hr class that must be taken once every year). In January of every year, The Colorado Real Estate Commission (also known as DORA) will make available a new version of the ACU Class for REALTORS® to take either through live classes or online. Do not take the ACU twice in the same calendar year as you will only get credit for it once.
Per DORA rules, the remaining 12 hours can be a combination of elective classes as they qualify for Colorado continuing education credits. Your required NAR Realtor Ethics course may count towards your elective credits. You will need at least 2.5 hours of NAR approved Code of Ethics training during every ethics cycle. Please check with the DAAR office for your specific cycle requirements.
New members are required to take New Member Ethics Training within the first 6 months of their DAAR membership.
DAAR holds many continuing education classes throughout the year including the mandatory CREC Annual Update Class and the 4hr Ethics class. You can view our schedule of classes in your Navica account or browse our online education partner offerings.
Tracking your Education – There is no single entity, except YOU, that keeps track of all the education you have taken. You can access your education transcripts through the CAR website but it will only display the classes you took through CAR and VanEd. DAAR’s online Streamline AMS site also tracks education for members who have taken classes through CAR, VanEd, or at their office. Still, it is important that you keep a file during each of your 3 year licensing periods containing all of your certificates. DORA occasionally performs education audits in which they will want copies of all your continuing education certificates for that 3-year time period.
To access your Education Transcript on CAR’s website go to www.coloradorealtors.com; click on “Info Hub Login” at the top of the page and login with your email address and password. If you have never signed into the website, click “Reset Password” to receive an email allowing you to set the password. After logging in, click on “Continuing Education” from the menu on the left.
Mandatory Courses
The Annual Commissions Update (ACU) Class (formerly known as CREC Update Class) –All REALTORS® are required to take this course EVERY YEAR. The commission, also known as the Division of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), will make available an updated version of this class every January. DAAR will schedule an Annual Commissions Update class twice a year, in January and December, to help ensure that REALTORS® meet this requirement before their license expires. However, you may also take it online through any of our discounted education providers.
NAR Code of Ethics and Fair Housing – Besides the ACU Class, the Code of Ethics and Fair Housing classes are REQUIRED and must be taken by all REALTORS®. NAR and DAAR require that you take these courses once every triennial period starting January 1, 2025. That means you should have taken them at least once between January of 2025 and December of 2027 and so forth for each triennial period. You may take the 6 hour Ethics and Professional Practices class online; any 4 hour NAR Ethics class online or in a live classroom; or take the 2.5 hour free class online at NAR’s website to meet this requirement. Qualified training for Fair Housing must be of not less than 2 hours of instructional time. More information about Fair Housing courses here. Upon completion of any online course, or live course not taken at the DAAR office, please forward your certificate to amanda@durangorealtor.com.
For any additional information on any of these education topics please contact DAAR at 970- 247-9604.
