Durango’s Planning Commission voted unanimously to recommend the city of Durango annex 1,928 acres on Durango Mesa, formerly Ewing Mesa. Future plans for Durango Mesa Park include concert structures, a special events complex, a sports complex, a cycling complex, camping and a dog park, and possibly the La Plata County Fairgrounds. Currently, the land is privately owned and only some trails are open to the public. Development will be phased out over many years. The annexation still must go to Durango City Council for a public hearing and an ordinance.
